Green Gulch Farm is located within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean in Marin County, California. Green Gulch is part of the San Francisco Zen Center & Zen students have been caretaking & growing food on these acres since 1972. Our 13 person farm crew resides here on the land and practices together with the larger Green Gulch community–about 40-60 people in total. Each season the farm hosts 6-8 apprentices from April-October to learn the basic principles of organic farming, zen training, and community living.
Green Gulch is situated in the fog belt and we grow cool-weather crops all season. Lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, beets, potatoes, herbs, broccoli, cabbage, squash, turnips, arugula, green beans and more come from our fields.
We sell our produce to a few restaurants, to Rainbow Grocery co-op in San Francisco, at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, at the Mill Valley Farmers Market, and we also eat as much of our own produce as we can here at Green Gulch and also at the Zen Center’s City Center on Page St. in San Francisco. We donate produce to various soup kitchens, participate in Marin Organic’s fantastic gleaning program that works to get organic fresh produce into Marin schools, donate leftover vegetable seedlings to various community & school gardens.
Green Gulch is within the Golden Gate National Recreational Area, so many bikers, hikers, and horseback riders visit our farm each day. You are welcome to visit as well.
